(Original post, Nov. 11) This is Veterans’ Day, the anniversary of allied victory in World War I, now observed in honor of all those Americans who have fought or currently fight to defend our country and our liberties in wartime. Please pause for a moment today, 11/11, to send them a grateful thought and a prayer for God’s favor.

One veteran known to many of us in Colorado, and who recently went back on active duty in the combat zone in Iraq, is Marine Major Mike Coffman, on leave from his elected post as State Treasurer. Major Coffman will be my guest by phone this Sunday on “Backbone Radio with John Andrews.” And Mike’s wife, Cynthia Honssinger, will be with me in the KNUS studio. Don’t miss this interview!

We’re on the air on 710 KNUS in Denver, and streaming live at 710knus.com, from 5-8pm this and every Sunday. We take your calls at 303-696-1971. We welcome your emails at backboneradio@aol.com.

Other topics and guests for the Nov. 13 show include…

** What’s at stake in the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel Alito? Allison Eid, Colorado Solicitor General and former law professor, will tell us.

** How does passage of the Ref C tax increase change the 2006 race for governor and the 2007 agenda for Colorado? We’ll ask Congressman Bob Beauprez, Republican gubernatorial contender.

** Is this country headed for universal government health care like Canada? Can anything keep Medicaid from swamping our state budget, even with the Ref C money transfusion? We’ll ask Dallas-based expert, Dr. Merrill Matthews.

** Can Senate Republicans, Colorado’s loyal opposition, patch up their differences over Ref C and unite against the Dems next year? We’ll ask minority leader Andy McElhany (no on C) and assistant leader Steve Johnson (yes on C).

After our 1st birthday party last Sunday — with help from many of you — we’ll roll into Backbone Radio’s 2nd year this Sunday: still the most principled, most patriotic, most faith-based, most Colorado-proud spot on your weekend radio dial. Please listen and participate!

Yours for self-government,
JOHN ANDREWS
