Denial a comfy refuge for educrats

Monday, April 30th, 2007

By Krista Kafer (krista555@msn.com)

A man left the doctor’s office in disgust after the doctor suggested he exercise, lose weight, eat right, and quit smoking. The man wanted a simple prescription that would enable him to feel better. The doctor, however, said medication would have limited impact if the man refused to change his lifestyle. Refuse he did. In search of a diagnosis that agreed with his lifestyle, the man made an appointment with another doctor. Sound familiar? Education special interests perennially seek a cure-all—usually more money—to solve the public system’s malaise. (more…)

Dems devoid of vision & leadership

Monday, April 30th, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

Throughout American history, strong leadership has saved the country: Washington at Valley Forge, Lincoln in the dark days of the Civil War. These leaders had a conviction of the right thing to do and stuck to it! But what about present leadership in the Democratic Party? (more…)

Newt nails it

Monday, April 30th, 2007

By Brian Ochsner (baochsner@aol.com)

I agree with Newt Gingrich – it’s important for conservatives to stay in the political battle. But to regain the state and national majorities, every conservative Republican candidate, consultant and campaign manager should watch this video on Iraq by the former Speaker and this video with his analysis of GOP lessons to learn. Call to Action: much at stake in final days

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Will legislative Dems go along with Gov. Ritter’s property tax increase in these final days of the 2007 session? Will the raid on petition rights, HCR-1001, succeed? Will the Governor sign a stack of bills on fringy social issues belying his moderate campaign promises?

Edwards for the defense: clueless

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

John Edwards’ response to the question in this week’s debate, “What would you do if the nation were attacked?” was quite revealing: He said in effect “I would determine where the intelligence breakdown was, and find where the Homeland Security had failed, and punish those responsible.” Note that it didn’t even cross Mr. Edwards’ mind to strike back at the enemies: only to find scapegoats and crucify them! Very much a lawyer’s response. (more…)

Excuse the melodrama; I am just recalling history old and new. “Victory or death” was the password for Washington’s army on their daring night crossing of the Delaware to surprise the redcoats and save the revolution, Christmas 1776. (more…)

TV, April: Congress gets an F

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

The “Head On” debate between former state Sen. John Andrews (R) and former Denver councilwoman Susan Barnes-Gelt (D), seen daily on Colorado Public Television since 1997, began its April series this week. Evaluating legislative performance so far in 2007, Andrews awarded Congress an F and marked the Colorado General Assembly at no better than C. Other topics this month include the Virginia Tech shootings, fallout from the Imus affair, and the woes of Denver’s mass transit project.

1. CONGRESS AFTER 100 DAYS

Susan: After the first 100 days, I give the Dem-controlled Congress a solid B. They’re addressing Iraq – the reason they won control last November. They are responding to tax cuts for rich people and higher taxes for the middle class. And they’re working to restore voter confidence in government.

John: Voters didn’t elect Majority Leader Harry Reid to declare the war is lost against a radical Islamist enemy bent on destroying us. They didn’t elect Speaker Nancy Pelosi to junket overseas kissing up to dictators. None of the Democrats’ campaign promises are anywhere close to becoming law. This Congress deserves an F so far. A feminized America is easy prey for the Chos and the Islamofascists

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

When a single mom sends her 12 year old son off to Middle School, often times she will instruct him “don’t hit!” which basically ties his hands in defending himself. The boy becomes a target for the school bullies, and his life becomes miserable owing to the intimidation. The mom’s response usually is to wring her hands and complain ineffectually to school officials or to move the boy to another school, where the pattern is repeated. (more…)

It’s been a week of sadness. The slaughter at Virginia Tech on Monday, the Columbine anniversary today, and in between, the irresponsibility of mainstream media in giving the evil Cho a national audience. The leader of the US Senate deems our war lost for no greater reason than his own lack of spine, and criticizes the Supreme Court for upholding an abortion law he voted for. Revolting, all of it.

Sadness too at services on Thursday for our family’s matriarch, Donna’s mother Patricia Gordon, who passed away at 90 on 3/31. But gratitude as well for her exemplary life of faith and patriotism… gratitude for a huge step back toward the rule of law and the protection of life by that Supreme Court ruling… gratitude for the resiliency of America as a free and decent society unyielding to evildoers at home or abroad. Woman of the Century

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

In our family, Patricia Gordon was exactly that, through
more than nine decades until her passing last month.

Memorial services for my wife’s mother were held on April 19 at St. James Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colorado. Rev. Wayne Darbonne officiated. Here are my eulogy and several tributes by other family members. Scroll down to read the contributions of Christina Andrews, Jennifer Andrews, Melanie D’Evelyn, and Tom D’Evelyn, or enter their names in the search block, above right. (more…)

A black American reflects on the Imus affair

By Joseph C. Phillips (joseph@josephcphillips.com)

When I was a boy, my father charged me with cleaning up a mess in the bathroom. Thoroughly disgusted, I tried every way I knew how to avoid touching anything. The delay angered my father until finally in exasperation, he hollered, “You are going to touch much worse than that in your life!” He was correct. I have in my life touched much worse. The lesson learned was in all things we must keep our perspective. (more…)

Saturated with video violence

Friday, April 20th, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

(April 20, Hitler’s Birthday, and the Columbine anniversary) I am appalled by commentators who ask silly rhetorical questions such as “Why do such things happen?” or “How can we understand these events?” or “What’s wrong with our society?” It’s not rocket science. All they have to do is look around! We have wall to wall violence on TV, in movies — and in video games. (more…)

Irresponsible VT news coverage

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

April 18, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

It’s unseemly to be holding candle light vigils and to be squabbling over memorials even before the bodies are cold, to say nothing of the tedious 24 hour TV news coverage. But the most outrageous is the national airing of the demented killer’s diatribe! (more…)
