Caution: Legislators at work

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

(Andrews in Denver Post, April 15) Knowing I had been a state senator, a friend recently asked me to update her on this year’s session of “the Colorado Congress.” I gently suggested she start by thinking of it as the Colorado General Assembly, since the only Congress is the one in Washington, DC. Can America recover its sense of mission?

Friday, April 13th, 2007

By Hilmar von Campe (institute4@gulftel.com)

It is about time that America and the Western world go back to their roots in order to understand the nature of our organized enemies, and in order to defeat them. Such enemies include the Islamic terrorists. The shallowness of our so-called leaders is appalling in that they do not acknowledge this necessity. (more…)

————————————————————————-Here it comes; you knew it would. The left is piling on the Don Imus affair to discredit talk radio in general, with the mainstream media as their obliging platform. Doubt me? Colorado Media Matters, a branch of the Soros-funded progressive thought police, has a hit piece in both Denver papers today (both!), charging several local conservative hosts with “lies, smears, and vitriol” not so different from what got Imus fired. The day a piece of my past blew away

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

By Matt Dunn (matt.dunn@codydental.com)

When I’d heard that a tornado had passed through Holly, Colorado last week, cutting a 300-yard wide swath through the center of town, I wondered if my grandfather’s former home might have been spared. The next day’s photos in the Rocky Mountain News, sitting in the reception area of my dental office, showed that it had not been. (more…)

Followup directory & links for John Andrews’
legislative countdown special on 710 KNUS

Thanks for your willingness to get involved as the Colorado General Assembly decides critical issues in these final days of its 2007 session. Matters awaiting decision are a moving target, but the property tax hike may still arise as a late bill, the Iraq war resolutions aren’t yet finalized, and social issues such as the sex ed mandate (HB-1292) and gay adoption (HB-1330) await Ritter’s signature or veto. Your voice can make a difference — see below for relevant links, along with our convenient directory of legislators with email addresses and phone numbers. (more…)

The headlines are not usually the last word, nor is history the news cycle. Mankind’s journey is something subtler and grander — a chain of choices and a mighty drama resulting from those. In the Roman execution of a certain Galilean troublemaker, for example, first impressions were wrong again and again, as my latest commentary points out. (more…)

Not too late, say Easter believers

Friday, April 6th, 2007

By John Andrews (andrewsjk@aol.com)

Too late? No, it’s still early. The story is far from over. That’s the good news for a weary world, as Jesus’ followers once again commemorate his crucifixion and resurrection at Passover time two millenia ago. Time and again in this greatest of all dramas, the early returns were overturned. Think about it: (more…)

Imam’s prayer in Texas Senate excludes Christians

Friday, April 6th, 2007

By Michael Del Rosso (m.j.delrosso@ieee.org)

Re WorldNetDaily story, April 5: What the hell are they thinking in Texas? Why would State Sen. Florence Shapiro have invited this guy? I have always said that multicultural political correctness is a form of self-loathing, and I can only assume Shapiro is infected with that bug to suicidal proportions. (more…)

Rudy undeserving of conservative support

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

By Krista Kafer (krista555@msn.com)

Since putting his hat in the ring for president, Mayor Rudy Giuliani has attempted to appease pro-lifers by saying 1) he does not support taxpayer funding of abortion, 2) he is committed to appointing conservative judges, and 3) he personally opposes abortion. In a CNN interview this week, Giuliani’s true convictions came to light and they are rather the opposite of earlier placations. (more…)

Gooney birds of the intellectual elite

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

By Dave Petteys (dpetteys@comcast.net)

The self-styled intellectual elite are like tropical birds. They sit on their perches in the newsrooms, universities, and magazine editorial offices. They squawk and groom their plumage, believing they are the cutting edge center of the world. But are they? (more…)

Must a conservative believe in God?

Sunday, April 1st, 2007
“To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” – Theodore Roosevelt

What is at the core of a conservative philosophy? There is some debate as to whether you must believe in God (or in revealed Truth) to be a conservative. A few months ago Heather Mac Donald began a discussion in the online pages of National Review where she contends that religious beliefs and religious arguments actually harm the conservative cause. Memo to Merrifield on heaven & hell

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

By Dave Crater (crater@wilberforcecenter.org)

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:8

“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell.” – Christ, Luke 12:4-5

“Meantime, down here it looks as if our so-called board will vote to turn over Hunt Elem[entary] to C. Chavez for a charter before the evil twins are forced out by recall!! There must be a special place in Hell for these Privatizers, Char[t]erizers, and Voucherizers! They deserve it!” – Former Colorado House Education Committee Chairman Mike Merrifield (D-Manitou Springs), email to Sen. Sue Windels 12/8/06
