“If we lost, who won?” Senator McCain’s question in the GOP presidential debate ought to be an alarm bell for everyone who thinks America can just walk away from Iraq, and really from a dangerous world, without consequences to ourselves and the future of freedom. To concede defeat for our cause is to grant victory to our enemies — Al Qaeda, Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the rest. Why would anyone want that?

This week on Backbone Radio we’ll talk with McCain’s former Senate colleague, Rick Santorum, about the America’s Enemies Project. It’s a new push by Santorum to wake up this country to the threat from Islamofascism, North Korea, Venezuela, China, and Russia. I pray there is still time. If we act, there is.

** Counter-insurgency expert Jack Wheeler will also be my guest for a closer look at the Islamist mentality and goals. Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies will help us tie in the border security angle.

** Kellyanne Conway of the Polling Company, a leading Republican strategist, runs the numbers for us on lessons from election 2006 for a better outcome in fast-approaching 2008.

** And with the money pit growing ever deeper for FasTracks, Denver’s light rail plan, I will explore transportation alternatives with Randall O’Toole of the Thoreau Institute.

Questions abound. What did the Reagan Library debate this week tell us about an eventual Republican nominee to face Hillary or Obama next year? Or will someone else get the Democratic nomination? How well did this year’s Colorado legislature and rookie Gov.Bill Ritter do in the session now wrapping up? Will state Dems live to regret their $1.8 billion tax increase?

Think it all through with Backbone Radio, Sunday at 5pm. Hope to have you with us then.

Yours for self-government,
JOHN ANDREWS
