JOIN US, MAY 23: Luncheon on Universities vs. America; details below
————————————————————————-
“Madam Chairman, Colorado is close to the front line of America’s unsecured southern border. We are a conduit for massive illegal traffic into this country. I dealt with the consequences as Senate President, 2003-2005. I bring you an appeal from our state to build the fence and secure the border first and foremost. I urge you not to reward lawbreakers with green cards and citizenship.” So began my testimony on Thursday afternoon before the House Immigration Subcommittee in Washington.

An hour earlier, Senate Republicans and the Bush administration had announced their capitulation to Ted Kennedy and Democrats on amnesty for illegal aliens. I urged the opposite course. (See full text in an earlier post below.)

Other headlines in this busy week included Senate Democrats rejecting Harry Reed’s latest Iraq surrender resolution, Republican presidential candidates holding their second debate, and more bad bills signed by Gov. Bill Ritter.

My guests Sunday evening on Backbone Radio to talk over all of it with you will include Dan Haley, the new editorial page editor of the Denver Post… Dr. Alan Crippen of the John Jay Institute… and author and columnist Joseph C. Phillips.

** Plus Ward Connerly of the American Civil Rights Institute with a preview of next year’s ballot issue for a color-blind constitution in Colorado

** Plus Coloradan Brian Ivers, Marine veteran of three Iraq tours, for thoughts on Armed Forces Day 5/19 and Memorial Day 5/28.

Spin the dial, surf the net, troll through the weekdays — you just won’t find anything else like Backbone Radio. Please be part of our show this weekend by tuning in at 5pm Sunday.

Yours for self-government,
JOHN ANDREWS

  • John,
Thank you for being front and center defending America on the illegal immigration debacle. I will be out of state rest of the month. Here is my two cents worth: We must INSIST upon hearings that inform Americans of the consequences of Bush/Kennedy–the social including cultural impact, crime activity, taxation, burden on already dysfunctional govt schools and hospitals, Medicare, Social Security, and the list goes on. A bill with such watershed impact on this country needs to be throughly discussed and should be a 2008 issue for the voters.

I suggest that the above be emphasized when people make calls to their reps and others. We can argue about illegality until we are blue in the face, but that is being mostly ignored.

    Blessings,
    Susan Malone
