Paradox of Bush vs. the Left

by
November 14th, 2008

Why is that George W. Bush could completely understand the concept that if you appease terrorists, you empower them — and he therefore showed strength and fortitude in fighting back. Yet again and again he thoroughly appeased or totally ignored his political enemies, thus empowering them?

And why is it, in contrast, that the Left believes we can negotiate with anyone, even terrorists who want to kill us. Yet they fight their political foes with a venom and ferocity as if there can’t possibly be any negotiation — in effect treating them as if they are terrorists?

Just wondering.

Editor: McCain in this campaign against Obama suffered from the paradox even worse than Bush did against Kerry. Remember all the preemptive howling about how BHO would be “swift-boated?” If only he had been. Palin, on the other hand, seems blessedly free of the paradox. Not for nothing was she called the Barracuda.
