Weed yes, cigarettes no

Can someone explain to me why the most vocal people in favor of legalizing marijuana are the same ones who made smoking tobacco the equivalent of moral turpitude? They’re not bothered by smoking as long as you smoke what they decide is acceptable–especially in Boulder.

I’ve always been for the freedom to do many things which I personally would not do. It fosters and maintains personal responsibility and limits the nanny state. Because governments are going broke as a result of their reckless spending, they have suddenly discovered that there’s gold in them thar drug business. When it comes to the need to raise cash, even liberals seem to know that when you maximize competition, you maximize profit. When they’re finished, the only thing left of our free market will be marijuana.

Trendiness appears to be what is paramount for the Left, so long as they get to be the ones to decide what is trendy. Over time, they are usually revealed to be stunningly wrong. We were told to use plastic bags rather than paper in order to save trees. Now, they hate plastic bags and prefer cloth which we’ve discovered, accumulates bacteria. They instruct us in the proper way to sneeze and cough; we rub our hands with perfumed alcohol upon arrival at the supermarket. Meanwhile, our groceries are growing their own kind of weeds.

In the words of that great philosopher, Glinda the Good Witch, “Be gone, you have no power here!”
