Courtroom shocker out of Carolina

The “separation of church and state” crusade is joined every day in courtrooms across the land, but today in especially interesting fashion in North Carolina. Front page news says Chief N.C. District Court Judge Joseph Turner interpreted a reference in state law requiring witnesses to place their hand on the “holy scriptures” as, to everyone’s amazement, the Bible. (more…)

Ritter For, Wiens Against, Beauprez and Holtzman Unsupportive

Three potential Republican contenders for Governor next year are voicing their opposition or concerns toward Referendum C, the $3 billion spending plan referred by the legislature for voter approval this fall. One of the four Democrats most frequently mentioned for their party’s nomination came out in favor of the plan; the others passed.
