Radio, Jan. 22: Least Dangerous Branch?

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, DenverTo listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Executive Powers in the Constitution... Harvey Mansfield in Weekly Standard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Colorado Mercy Killing... The Dylan Walborn story in Denver Post. Plus this site all about little Dylan rest his soul. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that Judge Samuel Alito is nearly certain of confirmation to the US Supreme Court, let's talk about the hot topic of courts and judges in American self-government today. Alexander Hamilton, writing in Federalist No. 78, predicted the judicial branch would be the "least dangerous" to our rights in a free society. Why hasn't it turned out that way?

This will be just one of our themes Sunday evening on "Backbone Radio with John Andrews," 5-8pm on 710 KNUS in Denver and 710knus.com. Tune in for the discussion and call in for your 2-cents worth. Our studio line is 303-696-1971, Our email is backboneradio@aol.com.

** Al Knight of the Denver Post, the only local journalist who wrote conservative commentary throughout the Alito battle, returns to the show.

** Carol Chambers, District Attorney for Arapahoe, Douglas, and nearby counties, joins me for an update on how judges on our state courts are doing. (Hint: not great.)

** Leslie Hanks of Colorado Right to Life will also check in, as this weekend marks 33 years since the US Supreme Court fabricated a "constitutional right" to abortion on demand -- and scant days since the court affirmed Oregon's assisted-suicide law (see Dylan Walborn link at top.)

On other fronts, Brad Meuli of the Denver Rescue Mission is back with me to keep us mindful of the unfortunates on our winter streets. And we're hoping for a half-hour with Denver school superintendent Michael Bennet, young man in a hurry to lift standards in our urban classrooms.

Plus there's the governor's race, the Iran menace, the NSA controversy (see Harvey Mansfield link at top), and Hillary. Open season on all subjects as we roll through another lively Sunday evening of fact, opinion, and insight. It's all yours on Backbone Radio, the most principled, most patriotic, most faith-based, most Colorado-proud spot on the dial.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS
