Bible Friday 9/16: Meet Mr. MacDonald

It's true: the great C.S. Lewis called Scottish preacher and writer George MacDonald (1824-1905) "my master," and that makes him worth looking into. My morning routine includes not only the St. James Bible Guide but also one of MacDonald's 365 little poems in The Diary of an Old Soul. Check it out and let me know what you think. Now for today's questions:

Psalm 69:1-36. What would true, godly zeal (verse 9) look like in my conduct as a Christian in America today?  Recognizing Jesus had it right (John 2:17), how might I have it wrong?

Job 23:1-17. What anguish of mine, right now, calls for Job's balance of boldness toward God and submission to Him as expressed here?

Ephesians 5:22-33. What should I be doing to help make my church, and "the" church, more glorious and holy as the Bride of Christ?

Luke 8:1-10. What patches of poorer and better spiritual soil in my heart can I specifically remediate or cultivate in the next 12 hours?

These are some of the questions I asked myself in studying this morning's four readings from the  St. James Daily Devotional Guide. Where is your self-examination leading today?
