Bible Wednesday 2/14: Ash Wednesday

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 102:1-28. Verse 9 KJV, what is the deepest sorrow I have ever experienced? How did God show up? What did I learn?

Jeremiah 14:1-22. Verse 20, is my confessional practice and seeking of God's pardon as honest as he desires it to be? Action point for this coming season of Lent?

Joel 1:13 - 2:2. Verse 13, what does the wearing of sackcloth symbolize about how I should spiritually "dress myself" as the commemoration of Jesus' passion approaches?

Matthew 6:1-18. What should I abstain from, by way of a Lenten fast? Should the abstention be permanent? Why does Jesus say to be discreet and private about it?
