Bible Saturday 12/5: Prepare for Him

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 89:1-52. Verses 30-33, when have I experienced God’s sharp displeasure? How did he assure me of his love even then? Present application?

Isaiah 40:1-31. Verses 3-5, in these next twenty days of Advent, what preparatory work do I want the Father to do in my heart and mind so I’m ready for the coming of his Son?

Revelation 11:15-19. Verse 15, sung at the climax of Handel’s “Messiah.” With politics in turmoil, health in turmoil, how can Christ’s kingdom break in on our world right now—or is this just for the end times?

Luke 22:7-13. Verse 10, the man with the pitcher. What minute details of my life, which I have regarded as beneath Jesus’ notice, may in fact be already ordered by him in such a way as to bless me greatly?
