Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 130:1-8. Verse 1, does it feel right now as if I or someone near me is drowning? Shall I give the whole thing over to God, crying out to him with a faith stronger than all my fears?
Isaiah 58:1-14. Verses 6-8, amid all the feasting of Christmas (such as it is), how shall I actively practice the fasting of selfless concern for the less fortunate all around us, whom God so loves?
Luke 1:57-66. Verses 63, how can I listen today more attentively to what the Holy Spirit may be telling me that is contrary to what common sense or the worldly mind wants to say?
Luke 1:67-80. Verses 76 and 77, John’s mission to go before Jesus and announce salvation. Focusing on the Lamb of God today and this week, how can I make this my best Christmas ever?
