Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 141:1-10. Verse 5, when I am in the wrong, humanly or spiritually, who is best able to call me out as I deserve? Why is that valuable?
Jeremiah 24:1-10. Right now when God looks at all those who call themselves Christians in my community, what’s his criterion for the basket of those who please him and the basket of those who displease him?
Romans 9:27-33. Why does the worldly mind, such as we constantly see in the media, stumble at the idea that faith in Christ crucified is the only way to get right with God? Am I myself in danger of stumbling?
Matthew 13:53-58. Related, local Galileans stumble at how Mary’s son could possibly be the Messiah. After 2000 years, is our culture perhaps too familiar with Jesus? Is he sometimes old hat even to me?
