Bible Saturday 1/16: Secret Prayer

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 39:1-13. Verses 4-7, what part of all my self-knowledge weighs heaviest on me? What aid and comfort do I get from God about that?

Genesis 16:1-16. Impatient for an heir, Abram and Sarai take matters into their own hands. When have I pushed ahead willfully, trying “help” God? What did I learn? Present application?

Hebrews 7:11-28. Jesus our high priest forever. In having God the Son represent me to God the Father, how am I more blessed than the strict monotheists, the Jew with Yahweh or the Muslim with Allah?

Matthew 6:1-15. Verses 4 and 6, why does Jesus command secrecy? How can I better obey this? Verse 9, how is the Lord’s Prayer a “manner” and not just words to say? What’s required of me here?
