Bible Thursday 8/19: Fiery Trial

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 119:49-88. Verse 54 KJV, what is there in God’s laws and statutes that is worth singing about? How does my perspective change if I realize I’m spiritually on a pilgrimage, not at a standstill?

Joshua 10:1-43. Verses 12-14, sun and moon stand still at Joshua’s command. Does my standing with God change according to whether I believe all or some or none of the Bible’s miracles?

Amos 2:1-16. Verses 4-8, God’s wrath upon Judah’s and Israel’s sins, economic, sexual, and religious. Does my church take sin as seriously as this prophet did? What’s the consequence?

Luke 3:7-20. Verses 15-17, what has been my experience with Jesus’ cleansing fire? Was it worth the discomfort? Is there more to come? Application for today?
