Bible Saturday 1/15: Winter Poverty

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 37:1-40. Verse 5, what important matter have I been taking too much upon myself of late, when I should be committing it into God’s care right now?

Deuteronomy 15:1-23. Law of release for debtors and bondservants, every 7th year. In my church do we practice a different approach to social and economic obligations from that of the secular world?

Genesis 14:14-24. Melchizedek, king and priest, blesses Abram. In my church, having neither kings nor priests, what sacred authority are we under? Why does it matter?

Matthew 5:43-6:4. Verses 2-4, for whom can I do a secret good deed today? Why does Jesus want it done secretly?
