Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 119:89-128. Verse 97 KJV, meditate all day. What would it look like for me to be an all-day disciple of Jesus, not just an on-and-off or when-needed believer? What reminders and practices shall I use today?
Jeremiah 4:1-31. Suppose our church began offering such “jeremiads” as this, fiery sermons with dire warning to sinners and thunderous calls for repentance—and half the congregation quit. Would it be worth it?
Romans 8:1-11. Verses 4-6, when was I put to the choice yesterday between being carnally minded or spiritually minded, walking in the flesh or in the Spirit? How did I do? How can I do better today?
Matthew 13:18-23. Four kinds of soil for the kingdom word to grow in (or not). Don’t I have some of each in my heart and mind? What are some examples from my own self-knowledge?
