Bible Sunday 10/2: Written in Heaven

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 81:1-16. Verse 15 KJV, haters of the Lord. Who are these at the present time in human history; what specific powers and persons? How can I be protected from them and prevail against them?

Job 33:1-33. Verses 21-26, how is everything better in my world today, as a result of knowing Jesus Christ to be the my ransom for sins and my messenger of righteousness?

Ezra 1:1-11. God uses Cyrus, a heathen ruler, to further his holy purposes. How can this inform my prayers for civil government and politics in our stormy times?

Luke 10:17-24. Verse 20, what’s the benefit to me from having my name written in heaven? What markers of worldly position or status may I have been inclined to value too highly?
