Bible Thursday 9/15: My Pure Prayer

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 41:1-13. Verses 5-8, who is there that might literally want me dead, either for personal reasons or because of who I am, what I stand for? How can I obtain God’s protection? How can I love that enemy?

II Kings 24:1-20. The faithless Hebrews come full circle, from bondage in Egypt to exile in Babylon. When have I repeated the same mistakes, ignoring God’s warnings, and paid dearly for it?

Job 16:1-22. Job bitterly protests the ill-usage by his friends and by God. Verses 17-19, if I felt my only court of appeal was to heaven itself, how would I plead my case?

Luke 7:1-10. Verse 8, related question, what do I most need Jesus to do for me today with his wise, loving, incontrovertible heavenly authority?
