Studying this morning's five readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 116:1-19. Verse 15, how shall I draw strength from Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection when death overtakes someone dear to me?
Zechariah 12:1-14. Verse 10, the prophet foretells the piercing of the Savior. Had I been in Jerusalem that weekend, would I have fled, or joined the scoffers, or stood with my dying Lord?
Hebrews 5:1-14. Verses 7-9, possessing salvation through Christ who suffered for me, how am I to conduct myself in daily life so that others receive blessings from being near me?
John 13:1-38. Related, having few occasions to literally wash someone’s feet, how can I find everyday outlets for that Christlike spirit of meekness and mercy toward persons in need of it?
Matthew 26:17-56. Verses 39-41, by what attitudes and actions between now and Sunday can I keep faith with Jesus in watchfulness, not sleepiness?
