Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 143:1-12. Verses 4-8, what is there in my life right now that looks overwhelming? How is that addressed by my experience of God’s goodness and power?
Isaiah 1:1-31. Verses 9 and 26, in standing with God’s remnant in an unfaithful time, what is expected of me today—and what is offered to me?
James 2:1-13. Verses 8 and 13, what specific, practical opportunity of loving my neighbor can I find today? What specific occasion for showing mercy?
Luke 14:25-35. What has it cost me, so far in my life, to follow Jesus? Am I ready for the cost to become greater, as our world darkens? How much would be too much?
