Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 89:1-52. Verse 15, what exactly is the joyful sound that alerts me to God’s presence? Do I hear it on the inside with my spiritual ear, or on the outside with my human ear, or both? Upon hearing it, what am I to do?
Leviticus 19:1-37. Verse 18, love your neighbor as yourself. In what way did I fall down on this yesterday? What specific opportunity can I find to do better today?
Acts 7:1-16. Stephen stands trial, charged with dishonoring God. If put to defend myself as a faithful heir of Abraham and Joseph, what evidence would I bring into court?
Mark 1:12-15. Jesus’ temptation. Verse 13, if God would send me his ministering angels at this season of my life, what would I most want them to do for me? How shall I prepare?
