Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 10:1-18. Verse 12, what does the answering of this prayer look like, when God lifts up his hand for me, my family, my church, my community, and my country? Is this happening later, or right now?
I Samuel 20:1-42. David, a king in waiting, is shielded by Jonathan, no longer heir to the throne. Who has been my Jonathan, a dear friend sent by God? To whom can I now be a Jonathan, God helping us both?
Acts 16:16-40. Paul and Silas at Philippi, despite efforts to put them on the defensive, go on the offensive in Jesus’ name. Am I on defense or offense as a Christian right now?
Mark 7:14-23. Verses 21 and 22, which of these evils from within the depraved human heart do I see around me—or even within me—today? How shall I pray the Lord Jesus to protect me from these?
