Bible Saturday 8/10: Not So Fast, Pete

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 99:1-9. Verse 8 KJV, with what inventions have I saddened God and tried his patience? What did I learn? Present application?

I Kings 2:1-46. Solomon’s bloody retribution on his political enemies. How can I avoid false nostalgia for an imaginary golden age of civil government on Old Testament lines?

II Timothy 1:1-12. Paul reminds Timothy of how his mother and grandmother formed him as a Christian. What lessons about how to—or how not to—follow Jesus have I gained from my family heritage?

Mark 14:27-31. Jesus chides Peter’s mistaken boasting. When has over-confidence led me to a bad fall? Present application?
