As voting starts soon in Colorado, where I live, and may already be underway where you live, friends are asking me for recommendations. I offer the following amicably, recognizing that people of goodwill may differ.
On candidate races, from President Trump and Senator Gardner—plus congressmen Buck and Lamborn, plus Stockham, Boebert, House to join them in Congress—all the way down the ticket to dogcatcher, I vote Republican always. Party overrides person in these matters, no exceptions.
The GOP, with all its imperfections, is the most important bulwark defending our US Constitution and the American way of life. The Democrats, sad to say, have sold out to Marx and Muhammed, so un-American, so dangerous.
On the statewide Colorado ballot, Centennial Institute, which I helped found with Bill Armstrong a decade ago, has these recommendations I fully endorse.
I am voting yes only on Amendment 76 (bars non-citizens from voting), Prop 115 (protects the unborn from late-term abortions), Prop 116 (cuts the income tax), and Prop 117 (strengthens the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights).
I am voting no on all the other statewide ballot issues, most emphatically NO on Prop 113 which would zero out Colorado’s influence on elections for President.
On the local ballot, as always, I vote no on all school taxes, all taxes period. Government has too much money already.
On judges, I also cast a uniform, impersonal NO vote. Many devoted public servants serve on the bench, but Colorado's judicial performance ratings are toothless, and judges' ego needs taking down a peg.
On RTD, the transit board, I support Mihalik for the G seat and Edwards for the H seat. No candidate in the other seats deserves your vote. Citizens should demand partisan labels on these murky RTD races.
Thanks for your interest, and to repeat, I say all this in an irenic spirit (look it up). That is, I approach this embittered election much as Lincoln approached America’s coming apart in 1861: “We are not enemies, but friends.”
Let’s act like it. Let’s vote the truth in love. God’s eye is upon us.
