Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 71:1-24. Verses 5-9 and 16-18, in maturing from younger to older, how have I grown closer to God? Or how has aging weighed on me, lessening my closeness to him? Prayer point?
Genesis 28:1-22. Verse 12, Jacob’s ladder of angels. Are angels real to me by experience, or more symbolic and mythical?
Malachi 1:9-14. In what way am I tempted to coast on my relationship with God, halfheartedly going through the motions of exalting and serving him? What are the consequences?
Matthew 9:9-13. Matthew, the despised tax collector, answers Jesus’ call. What sort of person in our own time would be equally as unlikely to join the Lord’s inner circle? Would I look down my nose at him or her?
