Bible Wednesday 1/27: In the Fire

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 66:1-20. Verse 10, when has God purified me by fire? What was the dross in me that burned away, and the silver of character that remained? To what use am I putting that silver now?

Genesis 27:1-46. Jacob and his mother cheat Esau and his father. What kind of foundation stone is this for God’s chosen people? Does this increase or decrease my confidence in God for the here and now?

Malachi 1:1-8. Verses 6 and 7, polluted worship. In what way could my church be charged with this?

Matthew 9:1-8. Is my relationship with Jesus more about forgiveness or empowerment? Which is more emphasized by my church? How does God want us to prioritize or balance the two?
