Bible Friday 8/27: Whatever It Takes

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 139:1-24. Verses 7-12, how can this declaration of God’s nearness to each of us guide my prayers for those experiencing fear, loss, suffering, and sorrow in Afghanistan right now?

Joshua 18:1-28. Verses 3-9, Joshua commissions a surveying party to explore the Holy Land for him. If I were asked, for God’s purposes, to survey our country’s spiritual condition at present, what would I report?

Amos 7:10-17. The king’s kept priest tries to silence Amos’s unwelcome prophecies. Is there any parallel among today’s ministers and clergy? Is my church part of the solution or part of the problem?

Luke 5:17-26. Who needs a word or deed from me today to bring them face to face with Jesus? If an evangelistic effort by several of us is required, whom can I team up with?
