Bible Friday 2/4: The Best News Ever

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 86:1-17. Verse 11, what knowledge, skill, or attitude do I want God to teach me today? What qualities of teachableness will he expect in me?

Ecclesiastes 1:1-18. Verses 5-7, existence as an endless meaningless cycle. Someone has said history is just “one damn thing after another.” What meaning and purpose has God imparted to my life-history?

Romans 1:1-17. Verses 1, 9, 15, 16, Paul the gospel man. If a student imbued with post-truth nihilism (a la Ecclesiastes) asked me state the gospel in a few dozen words, what would I say?

Matthew 10:27-33. Verses 29-31, how well Jesus knows us and how highly he values us. What little problem or wrinkle or detail of my life have I been treating as too small to bother the Lord with? Is it really?
