Bible Tuesday 2/22: All That Glitters

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 123:1-4. Verse 2, eyes fixed on God. What are the worst distractions that keep pulling my eyes off him? What if I could pause for one minute every half-hour today, and attend to God alone?

Jeremiah 7:1-34. Verses 4-11, God equally condemns doctrinal heresy, moral sin, and social oppression. Does my church stand against the whole spectrum of sin? Have I any blind spots here?

Romans 9:1-13. Becoming children of the promise not by one’s material DNA but by God’s spiritual call. How can I avoid the smug self-satisfaction of thinking I’ve “got it made” for salvation and heaven?

Matthew 13:44-52. If I had to submit my “heart investments” for Jesus to review, would he find I’m rightly invested in the treasure field and the priceless pearl—or in glitter that isn’t gold?
