Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 69:1-36. Verses 14-16, what is there right now in my life, or in our world, that feels like a flood engulfing everything in its path, the water too deep, the current too swift? What is God’s remedy?
Ezekiel 42:1-20. What qualities in Ezekiel fitted him to receive and record this holy revelation of God’s new city and new temple? How can I gain from God a gradually increasing endowment of those qualities?
Ephesians 2:11-18. How the cross of Christ reconciles the former in-group and out-group as one new man. What can I and my church be doing, based on this, to heal enmity and hostility in our community?
John 14:12-24. What sorrow shall I pray the Comforter (Holy Spirit) to soothe today? What lie shall I pray the Spirit of truth (Holy Spirit) to refute today?
