Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 116:1-19. Verse 15, for what loved one who has died, shall I thank and praise God today?
I Kings 17:1-24. In God’s name, Elijah confronts the king, escapes with the ravens, provides for the widow, and raises the dead boy. Which of these works shall I imitate today? Where can I get even a tenth of his faith?
Acts 23:11-35. Verse 11, what particular encouragement and assurance do I need from Jesus today, similar to his encouragement of Paul?
Luke 4:23-27. Jesus cites Elijah and Elisha, prophets of old, to remind the Jews God’s purposes are higher than ours. Do I need the same reminder for a difficult issue that I’m facing right now?
