Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 90:1-17. Verse 8, secret sins. What does God know about me, for good and ill, that no one else in this world knows? What must I do about it today?
Genesis 42:!-38. Joseph puts his unsuspecting brothers through the wringer. When has God subjected me to an ordeal of spiritual growth that seemed longer and tougher than I deserved? What did I learn?
Romans 3:19-26. Verse 19, every mouth be stopped. What self-justifications, evasions, and excuses do I sometimes rely on, rather than prostrate myself before God’s grace and mercy in Christ crucified?
Matthew 12:33—37. Related, what’s the best case I can make that when Jesus addressed his sinful hearers as vipers, he couldn’t possibly have meant me?
