Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 10:1-18. Verse 17, God hears the desire of the humble. Who are “the humble” in my community, here and now? What is my church doing for them, in Christ’s name? My role?
II Chronicles 11:1-23. Verses 4, 16, 23, Rehoboam rules somewhat more wisely. In a thousand years, when all the famous names of 2023 are as forgotten as this man’s name, what will God cause to be remembered?
Colossians 2:10-23. Verse 20, dead with Christ to worldly things. This sounds very holy and lofty, but what does it really look like in everyday terms to hold this attitude and yet live our normal lives?
Luke 19:41-48. Verse 45, Jesus angrily purges the temple. What if I had the power to shake up my church’s priorities so they would do more of X and less of Y? Then again, I have no such power, do I? Do I?
