Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 80:1-19. Verses 3, 7, 19 KJV, turn us again. What sharp turn do I need to make in my life, and I can’t do it on my own? Shall I supplicate God today for his help, with this prayer?
Hosea 9:1-17. Verse 7, fools and madmen exalting themselves. What is God’s antidote for the disgust, discouragement, and despair I am tempted to feel in surveying the debasement of our culture?
Acts 22:22-29. Paul asserts his rights as a Roman citizen. If persecution and even martyrdom are a way of witnessing for Jesus, how can I know when to resist them and when to merely submit?
Mark 12:35-44. Perhaps related, in emulating the widow whom Jesus commended, how far should I go in extravagant generosity and sacrificial giving? Where does prudence come in?
