Bible Thursday 2/15: What Lent Means

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 112:1-10. Verses 7 and 8 KJV, heart fixed, heart established. What do I need to have God do in me, for such a fixity of heart? By what attitudes and actions of mine would this be evident to other people?

Jeremiah 13:1-27. Verse 15, after wondering if Judah is too far gone in sin, Jeremiah says there is still a chance. How can I show God today I am ready to listen, no longer proud?

Romans 5:1-11. Verses 6-8, entering Lent’s forty days of self-examination and reflection, in what practical ways can I pay forward to others the new life Jesus purchased for me on the cross?

Matthew 13:53-58. Verse 55, related, is this not the carpenter’s son? Is it possible the whole story and message of Jesus, Son of God and son of Mary, has become too familiar to me? What’s the remedy?
