Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 35:1-28. Who are the persons and powers, natural and supernatural, that wish me harm? How can I shelter from them under God’s protection today? Is this a morbid and fruitless line of thought, as some say?
Lamentations 1:1-22. God’s fierce anger at Zion. What are the toxic thoughts and feelings in so many people today that can flip the worshippers of Palm Sunday to the crucifiers of Good Friday? Am I party to any of this?
John 12:42-50. Verse 46, what evidence have we that Jesus is the light of the world, across 20 centuries and right now today? In what very practical ways can I be, through Jesus, a light in humanity’s darkness?
Matthew 25:1-13. The bridegroom, Jesus, holds each of his servants individually responsible. Have I been spiritually coat-tailing on someone, or letting someone coat-tail on me?
