Bible Saturday 6/29: On This Rock

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 144:1-15. Verses 14 and 15, happy and uncomplaining. As I follow the news and cope with life’s challenges, is my response more often “Thanks and amen” or “Yes but”?

I Samuel 15:1-35. Saul’s disobedience to God dooms his kingship. In this election year, am I truly believing in God’s sovereign goodness, or merely paying it lip service while clinging to worry, rancor, and self-will?

Galatians 1:11-19. Paul’s devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. What qualities of this great apostle shall I ask God to express in me more fully today?

Matthew 16:13-19. Peter testifies to the Son of the living God. When has Jesus given me an undeserved second chance, much as he later gave Peter? How can I show him my gratitude today?
