Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 103:1-22. Verse 13, appealing for the Father’s pity. What specific need have I for his pity today? What would the expression of his pity for me look like? Why is it better than self-pity?
Zechariah 7:1-14. Verses 4-10, as the fasting time of Lent concludes, is it merely one more ritual that came and went, or shall I continue with an ongoing, deeper love for God and neighbor?
John 11:17-44. Verses 23-26, related, is the resurrection just something we talk about at Easter, or is it a physical and spiritual reality proven by Jesus and available to all of us who follow him?
John 11:45-12:11. Verse 3, reflecting on how Lazarus’ sister Mary fervently and demonstratively adored Jesus, how am I moved to take more risks and pay more cost in loving him here and now?
