Bible Wednesday 6/24: Dayspring

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 127:1-5. Verses 1 and 2, what important matter have I been approaching as if I’m in charge and God is in support, rather than realizing he is in charge and I’m in support?

I Samuel 23:1-29. Verses 7, 12, 16, and 21. Saul and David, mortal enemies, both see themselves as siding with God. When have I seen such a confused tangle of human wills and the divine will?

Luke 1:5-25. Verses 13 and 25, how faithfully does my church guard the biblical teaching that a child comes into the world by God’s gift, not by the couple’s choice?

Luke 1:57-80. Verses 77-79, arriving with the newborn John are to be remission of sins, mercy for suffering, light in darkness, peace for strife. Going about my life this summer, how can I too be an agent for those things?
