Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 133:1-3. How is unity, even if unattainable in the body politic, both possible and imperative for God’s people in the body of Christ? How does that in turn begin to heal our civic life? My role?
Proverbs 5:1-23. Verse 21, the Lord’s all-seeing eyes. As God observed my every thought, word, and action yesterday, what made him sad? What made him glad?
Romans 6:15-23. Related question, don’t I live much of the time as if there is a middle ground between being a servant (slave) either of sin’s poison or of God’s righteousness? Where does the Bible say that?
Matthew 13:44-52. Related again, don’t I often assume the treasure field or the priceless pearl can be acquired at a discount, spending less than my all to gain them? What have I been clinging to?
