Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 122:1-9. Verse 1, let us go to the house of the Lord. What persons do I particularly enjoy “doing church” with? How exactly do we enrich each other spiritually? Shall I try to expand that circle?
Nehemiah 9:1-38. Rededicating themselves to God as the wall is complete, the Israelites confess their sins and enumerate their blessings. Were I to make such a lifetime balance sheet, what would be in each column?
Galatians 4:12-20. Verse 19, who has suffered birth pangs, figuratively speaking, to aid my formation in Christ? How can I thank them? What’s next? Have I backslid? To whom can I pay it forward in Jesus’ name?
Luke 13:22-30. Verse 24, what is this narrow gate Jesus says I must enter? Verse 27, why are some told they’re not welcome? How shall I live today, truly knowing Jesus, not just knowing about him?
