Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 55:1-23. Verse 22, what burden is weighing on me right now? What would it look like to cast that burden on God, as he invites me to do?
Jeremiah 49:1-39. Further warnings of woe on several cities, but mingled with gleams of hope. When has God subjected me to bitter lessons—and then brought me through to better times? Present application?
Matthew 23:1-24. In what guise does Pharasaism operate among God’s people nowadays? Which of the untruthful and unloving attitudes called out here by Jesus, may find their way into my behavior?
Matthew 23:25-24:2. Verse 37, how does this image of Jesus as a mother hen sheltering its baby chicks, speak to the needs I’m experiencing here and now?
