Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 18:1-50. Verse 19, he delighted in me. Honestly, what is there about myself that could delight God? Is it not enough that he would just accept and sustain me? But if I do delight him, how does he make me know it today?
Ezekiel 31:1-18. Does God intend me for the glories of Eden or the horrors of hell? Have I any choice in the matter, or is it a matter of destiny and fate? Action point for today?
I Peter 4:12-19. Related, do I tend to see myself as a partaker of Christ’s glory but not of his suffering? What’s to be done?
John 8:21-30. Verse 28, related again, how can I claim to know Jesus at all unless I primarily know him as the Son of man lifted up on the cross? How does this reset all my values, aims, and goals?
