Bible Thursday 4/17: Gethsemane

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 116:1-19. Verse 13, cup of salvation. What have I found to be sweet in that cup? What have I found bitter? How can I open myself more fully to all of that, in these coming days of Jesus’ passion?

Zechariah 12:1-14. Verses 10-12, Jerusalem will mourn. Shall I allow Jesus’ self-sacrifice to penetrate my deepest heart and not simply remain on the surface of my intellect?

Hebrews 5:1-14. Why do I need Jesus to stand before God as high priest in my behalf?

John 13:1-38. When have I washed someone’s feet in an act of Christian love? How did it go? Whose feet shall I wash now, where and when?

Matthew 26:17-56. Verses 35-45, what would it specifically look like for me to keep watch with the Lord Jesus for at last one hour between now and Sunday, as Jesus asked of Peter?
